Electra sets new benchmark for Belgian EV infrastructure with first 1000 kW ultra-fast charging hub

BRUSSELS, March 31, 2026 – Electra, the European specialist in ultra-fast charging, today announces a major technological leap for the Belgian EV landscape. In Malle, Electra deployed the first Alpitronic HYC1000 hypercharger system in the country. This effectively makes Electra the first charge point operator (CPO) in Belgium to deploy a 1000 kW central power unit, enabling record-breaking public charging speeds of up to 600 kW. Thus bringing the EV experience closer than ever to a traditional refueling stop.

10% to 80% charging time cut in half

This deployment is not only a technical update; but a shift in the user experience. While the previous generation of ultra-fast chargers typically peaked at 400 kW, the HYC1000 architecture (HYperCharger with a total capacity of 1000kW), allows compatible vehicles to recover hundreds of kilometers of range in roughly the time it takes to grab a coffee in the café right next to the charging station.

Real world impact proven with Hedin and XPENG

To demonstrate the real-world impact of this 600 kW infrastructure, Electra teamed up with Hedin Mobility Group, the official distributor for XPENG in Belgium. During recent trials, the XPENG G9 - equipped with advanced 800V silicon carbide technology - successfully showcased the benefits of this synergy, achieving a 10% to 80% charge in 12,5 minutes, slashing the usual half-hour wait in half. This collaboration proves that when cutting-edge vehicle engineering meets Electra’s continuously evolving infrastructure, worrying about charging times is officially a thing of the past.

How the HYC1000 system works

Alpritronic is Electra’s long-standing hardware partner for charging infrastructure. Their HYC1000 system, designed for high-density professional use, utilizes a modular power stack that offers two key benefits.

The system features an external power supply unit (up to 1000kW / 800A) which intelligently allocates power across the 6 available charging points at the Malle charging station. If one car is connected, it can draw the full 600 kW potential. When multiple vehicles are charging, the system dynamically redistributes the 1000 kW total capacity to ensure every driver receives the fastest possible charge their battery infrastructure can handle.

With its 800V native architecture, the station is purpose-built for the new generation of 800-volt battery systems in EV’s, capable of absorbing extreme charging power while ensuring battery safety and durability. However, also 400V vehicles benefit from this system, as the 800A current intensity allows them to consistently reach their peak charging speeds, without the infrastructure acting as a bottleneck.

Setting the pace for the industry

This launch is part of Electra's broader plan to densify its network across major Belgian corridors and metropolitan areas, ensuring that the infrastructure is future-proofed for the rapidly maturing EV market.

"In this fast evolving market, Electra is not simply expanding, but setting the pace for the entire industry." says Louis-Charles Mosseray, General Manager of Electra BeNeLux. "By introducing Belgium’s first 1000 kW station, we demonstrate how our network scales alongside the most advanced vehicle technology available today. Our goal is to provide an ultra-fast, frictionless experience that turns the electric transition into a genuine competitive advantage for every driver and fleet manager. While high charging speed is a thrilling technical milestone, the real value lies in the consistency of the driver experience: the confidence of finding an available charger, easy payment with a simple and transparent pricing scheme, and being back on the road in minutes. This seamless experience and reliability is the heartbeat of the Electra network and exactly what sets us apart.”
